Meeting minutes already has a namespace <code>Minutes:</code>.

I suggest we add a <code>Tool:</code> namespace and a <code>HowTo:</code> namespace.

I think basically anything that exists physically in the space is a tool of some sort - even if it just kind of loosely falls into that category (cleaning supplies are still probably tools).

In most cases I think tool articles should be fairly generic - like, <code>Tool:Laser Cutter</code> as opposed to <code>Tool:My Fancy Laser Cutter Brand 3000</code>

In cases where we have a few different kinds of a particular tool, and we want to list tool specific things, I think we should use subpages, like <code>Tool:CNC Machine/Shapeoko</code> and <code>Tool:CNC Machine/Roland</code>. But the idea would be to make it main tool page (<code>Tool:CNC Machine</code>) as useful as possible.

In the case of the <code>HowTo:</code> namespace it would contain pretty much any kind of procedure for doing something (other than running a tool) at the space.

* <code>HowTo:Use The Wiki</code>

I think that covers basically everything I can think of that needs to be on the wiki, but we still have the main namespace for generic stuff, like maybe bylaws, organizational documents, and other things.

Organizational Tools of MediaWiki

Rough plans for using these tools with our wiki

Thoughts on the wiki organization: I think we'll have basically 4 different types of content: Meeting minutes, Tools, How To (not tool related), and Misc.

Meeting minutes already has a namespace Minutes:.

I suggest we add a Tool: namespace and a HowTo: namespace.

I think basically anything that exists physically in the space is a tool of some sort - even if it just kind of loosely falls into that category (cleaning supplies are still probably tools).

In most cases I think tool articles should be fairly generic - like, Tool:Laser Cutter as opposed to Tool:My Fancy Laser Cutter Brand 3000

In cases where we have a few different kinds of a particular tool, and we want to list tool specific things, I think we should use subpages, like Tool:CNC Machine/Shapeoko and Tool:CNC Machine/Roland. But the idea would be to make it main tool page (Tool:CNC Machine) as useful as possible.

In the case of the HowTo: namespace it would contain pretty much any kind of procedure for doing something (other than running a tool) at the space.

  • HowTo:Be A Good Member
  • HowTo:Run A Shift
  • HowTo:Schedule an Event
  • HowTo:Use The Wiki

I think that covers basically everything I can think of that needs to be on the wiki, but we still have the main namespace for generic stuff, like maybe bylaws, organizational documents, and other things.

Things that might make it easier for people to make new pages/navigate

Thoughts from other folks in the meeting

Nora mentions i3 and landing pages - how do we make our landing page easier/better. Ours is busy and it's hard to find relevant information.

Sarah mentions the sidebar - how do we customize this to put links in there that are relevant to our members and the general public. https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Interface/Sidebar

Action Items

Pick one (or more) wikis from https://wiki.hackerspaces.org/ and when we meet again we can discuss the cool things we've found.

Calling all Gnomes: Make your user page on the Wiki!! Things to include: About Me, AHA Projects, Tool Proficiencies if you wanna. Example can be found by looking at Sarah's page!
