Sometimes the intention and whatnot of AHA's mailing lists get confused, so here is a brief guide on their scope:

  • ahashop_members@googlegroups.com:

Used to discuss issues that apply primarily to membership. The line here is pretty fuzzy -- use your best judgement.

  • ahashop_staff@googlegroups.com:

Used by staff volunteers and those who serve as backup (in return for AHA membership). Managed by the Board Member who is the current Volunteer/Staff Coordinator.

  • ahashop_directors@googlegroups.com:

Anyone can read this list, but only current directors (and a handful of previous directors/officers) may post to it. This list is to be used for most board discussion because all good hackers should value transparency about proceedings and thoughts on things.

  • board@allhandsactive.com:

Active Board-member-only mailing list. Traffic on this list is not archived in a Google Group anywhere online, unlike our other lists. This list is used primarily for a limited set of discussions that are sensitive or otherwise don't make sense to post publicly; or as a generic point of contact for people who need to get in touch with anyone who knows what's going on at AHA.

ONLY current directors may see emails sent to this list. Anyone may send an email to this address. As mentioned, record of emails sent here isn't collected or cataloged by Google, at least not unless you are LEO/NSA or something.

Publicly-viewable, and posting is limited to current/previous members.

  • ahashop@googlegroups.com:

Used to discuss anything related to hackerspaces, maker culture, AHA, projects, ideas, etc.

Publicly-viewable, and publicly-postable (moderation used for most first-time posters).

  • ahashop_noise@googlegroups.com:

Used to post job opportunities, items for sale, random musings about whatever is on your mind, but doesn't necessarily fit in the hackerspace/AHA category.

Publicly-viewable, and publicly-postable (moderation used for most first-time posters).
