Minutes

  • Announcements/new business:
  • Operations:
    • Board elections coming up in April -- Nate
      • Who all is up for election? Joe and Robyn are at the end of their respective terms, Mike was appointed February 2025 when Nate needed to step down, Nate was (re-)appointed September 2025 when he returned. David was re-elected during our last election, so good until 2027.
      • Situation: We need to maintain a "2/3" pattern of Director terms so we don't lose most or all of the Directors each year by virtue of their expiring terms. If both appointees are included in this election, then we go to a 1/4 pattern. Proposal: one of those appointed spots will be a shortened term (i.e. they are up for election April 2026 instead of April 2027) to maintain the 2/3 pattern.
      • We will very shortly need to put out a call for those who would like to run/do nominations, and figure out who (i.e. someone(s) not running for election) will be in charge of running this election's operations, specifically the part where we collect and count votes.
    • "Garage sale"/Spring cleaning
      • Volunteers have started chipping away at some cleaning tasks, including the electronics area, as well as moving old/unused hardware to a pile that can be taken to SEMVCC later on. Jame picked up the pile late in February but progress is being made on a new pile.
      • Classroom junk piles have been moved away from the windows and need to be addressed. There are piles of dead batteries that need to be properly disposed of.
    • Changed Saturday's Open Hours to Sunday
      • We've been having more people but we've been forgetting to mark it on the schedule.
    • PC upgrades:
      • The 3d printer computer needs some update at some point since its still stuck on Windows 10. Jade thinks having one public windows computer is a good idea. Still needs to be updated in some form. Could use someone to set up Windows on the Framework and get it working with the CNC routers to replace the Mac Mini.
        • CNC room has too many CNC machines and we don't need to have that many at once. One of them is currently used as storage. Is one of them adcurtain's?
    • Job tracking:
      • No solid plans yet, but likely a combo of in-person job board and some kind of online tracking system. Joe proposes a Matrix plugin since we all are mostly using Matrix already. Nate will research any options there.
    • Signage: How do we get more foot traffic down here?
      • Sandwich board sign needs love -- apparently one side is missing. Bea has designed some new graphics that we need to take a look at and approve before we send them to a printer OR make them in-house.
      • Do we want to put LEDs on it?
      • outside signage update with adding LEDs to the sign. Maybe we can have a small sign in the bottom of an AD window.
    • Full window redesign in the main space to draw the interest of passerby's who already made it into the basement. Jade has been planning this and needs feedback before managing the implementation. This will require other expertise once the OVERALL design is semi finalized: There are aspects of CNC, laser cut, acrylic paint, and to design quite a bit of that detail itself.
  • Membership:
  • Outreach / Marketing:
    • Bea has been designing new flyers, shared on matrix in the #Marketing/Social Media channel
    • Joe will commit to taking flyers to the main library and branches
    • Jade has been taking photos of projects at AHA. Bea would like to make a sign directing folks on where to send any photos they take, e.g. #Publicity Photos or #Maker Show & Tell on Matrix
    • Meg and Mike: Set up a whiteboard of upcoming events, put it out with the "project board" on the table outside, create a volunteering task to keep it up to date.
      • Could be obviated by Raspberry Pi+Monitor project, but low-tech and quick is better than nothing right now. Plan for the low tech for now.
    • Screen printing seems to have an interest, what's our status on the class?
    • Upcoming events:
  • Education:
    • We had a CNC class earlier this month.
    • Jade may want to set up some ESP32 clock kits for either general existence or a class. BOM is around $10-12.
    • Joe will run a Laser class in March.
    • Meshtastic general meetup -- early spring? -- Mike & Nate
      • Nate: Still interested in doing this, but will need to pin down a time with Mike that will actually work.
    • Maker Show and Tell coming back soon? -- David
